That time of year has come again when the leaves change color and slowly twirl as they fall off the tree and land in the yard. The buzzing sound of leaf blowers can be heard early almost every morning. You can make your own retro costume, which is a good alternative to the packaged costumes you can buy at those big department stores. You know those flimsy unoriginal outfits that leave you hoping your youngster or you are not left indecently exposed before the night is through. These types of costumes are almost always uncomfortable to wear for any length of time. Your own costume can be a fun and low cost alternative. Items from your closet or a secondhand store can be used to put together the perfect Halloween costume.
The sixties are a great period to recreate with your retro costume. Bright Tye dye shirts and bell-bottom pants with big glasses were the style of the day. Kids can flash a peace sign for a laugh. Adults could make a fake marijuana cigarette out of some lawn clippings and some rolling papers. Shaggy hair designs will bring back that sixties look. Beads for guys or flowers in the hair for girls will top off the look. This was a pretty wild time in history so you are only limited to your imagination.
A somewhat similar look was around in the seventies. This period in time included such fun things as the pastel color leisure suit. Big afros and large framed sunglasses were the style. The bell-bottom pants lived on only bigger and with gems on them. Platform shoes may take some work to locate now days but they are sure to get laughs from even the spookiest of Halloween monsters. You may be able to find a lot of vintage clothing in a friend or family member’s closet and put a large combination of things together.
The eighties are a period of time with arguably the largest bottomed pants ever. The multicolored parachute pants are an unmistakably eighties thing. White athletic sneakers and loud color tee shirts are easy item to find. Ladies can dress up with the big hair and for guys what better for costume hair than a mullet? A girl with big hair and hoop ear rings the bigger the better will really look the part. The style then was Levis rolled up tight at the bottom with the socks pulled up high.
No matter what era you choose your retro costume will be fun to plan and wear. It will be durable and comfortable to wear. It can defiantly be a low cost option and almost undoubtedly be unique. So this Halloween look around and see what you can put together. You may find that planning your costume can be the most fun and rewarding part. You will be sure to get a laugh from even the most evil and scariest of Halloween creatures the roam in the night.
